Southern New England Logger Education Program

Administered by the Southern New England Logger Education Committee through the Forest and Wood Products Institute.   

Voluntary logger education program providing Professional Logger Certification to loggers who complete the curriculum requirements. Approved as a provider of SFI™ certification by Southern New England SFI™ Implementation Committee.

Certification

Certification requires a minimum of thirty-two (32) hours within four categories.

I:    Professional Business Management (4 hours minimum)

II:   Environmental Considerations for Sustainable Forest Management (8 hours min.)

III: Timber Harvesting and Transportation Safety (12 hours min.)

IV: Emergency Medical Response and First Aid (8 hours min.)

    (Credits must be earned within two calendar years)

 

Re-certification

Re-certification requires 16 hours every two years. At least 8 hours must be earned through maintenance of a valid CPR/First Aid certification. Balance of hours can be earned in any of these categories:

Logging/Forestry seminars and meetings.

bullet

Formal education/self-improvement.

bullet

Community and professional service.

The SNE program provides a full range of workshops each year, and will also recognize attendance at training from other providers such as the Northeastern Loggers' Association, Massachusetts Wood Producer's Association, and the Yankee Forest Safety Network. Awarding of credit for all outside programs is at the discretion of the SNE Logger Education Committee. SNE credits may also be applied toward the continuing education requirements for licensing in Massachusetts and Connecticut, at the discretion of the state licensing agency.
